Start your day the right whey
Any chance I get to start my day with a little cardio, I take it. Especially when that cardio is taking Finn on a walk in our favorite park on a sunny morning. On my days off, I like to get all of my (necessary and not so necessary) errands done for the next few days, grocery, Target, maybe T.J. Maxx – like I said not so necessary. There have been many mornings when we get back from the park, I’m in a hurry, and I completely forget to grab something to eat. After a thirty minute walk and a good hour of walking around in various stores, I am starving! I wanted to make sure this morning was different. Eating in the morning is the best thing you can do for your body to start your day off right, but sometimes we find ourselves getting out the door before we’re really ready.
I could rave about protein shakes for hours. I know that I personally do not get enough protein in my diet without them. I usually will have eggs for breakfast, a few slices of chicken or deli meat for lunch, and another 6 oz. for dinner. When you’re trying to build muscle, recover quickly, and stay full throughout the day – thats just not going to cut it. I love having a shake either after a morning workout or even after a late night workout if I know dinner’s not going to be for a little while. They’re convenient, in my opinion delicious, and of course great for meeting your protein goals.
I just repurchased my favorite brand of protein by Optimum Nutrition, in the vanilla ice cream flavor. I absolutely love how inexpensive this brand is (usually around $0.70 cents a scoop) and the variety of flavors. I have tried the chocolate, banana cream (very good), rocky road (not so great), and now the vanilla ice cream which is very very tasty.
This morning I wanted something a bit different than my normal shake and I knew I needed/could use a bit more calories and nutrients. Instead of my normal water and ice, I used whole milk and ice. Yes ladies, whole milk. I love all of my healthy milk fats, sugar, and proteins. Next came my ice, banana, protein powder, and.. COFFEE!
I had two thoughts before I tried it, “I either just ruined my shake or I’ll be writing about this later.”
Vanilla Mocha Protein Shake
1 cup of whole milk (or milk of your choice), a lot of ice cubes, 1 banana, 1 scoop of vanilla whey protein, and 1/2 cup of coffee (or more if you want to get duggy)
If you want more of a milk-shake consistency, make sure you are using cool/cold coffee when you put it in your shake. I used a handful of ice cubes to cool down the temperature, and apparently they decided to smile back at me
Threw it in a coffee cup and really took it to go!
It’s always fun switching shakes up, trying new ingredients, and keeping things tasty! Let me know some of your fav combos below
