Fall in Love With Homemade Chocolates

The perfect gift for your healthy someone

Valentine’s Day happens to be one of my favorite holidays. Not only because I have the my perfect person by my side, but it’s just a nice reminder to appreciate everyone who’s truly important to us, and you know – share some love! It happens to be less than a week away but I’ve started celebrating a bit early this year. You know what they say, you can never have too much love ❤️ and maybe they don’t say that, but they should say that because love is love ❤️

There’s nothing like getting a nice box of chocolates for Valentine’s Day, and of course just taking a bite of them all and leaving half in the box (Sorry, Chad). More importantly, there’s nothing like getting a homemade, heartfelt gift – I’m a sucker for flowers and dinner at home. But hey, I’m not saying I don’t love those chocolates! So I’ve put two and two together with these super easy, healthy, inexpensive, and adorable chocolates that your healthy someone will love!

First things first, you’re going to need to get crafty! I picked up a few silicon heart shaped molds from my local craft store, but of course I found them a bit cheaper later on amazon. { Here is what I suggest: Wilton Heart Shaped Molds } These are super easy to use (and reuse!) and can conveniently be tossed in the dish washer to clean any remaining oil or chocolate.

Now it’s time to grab some chocolate of choice! I used both dark and organic semi-sweet morsels, only because it’s what we prefer. If you want to take these a healthy step further, try out cocoa nibs, dairy free, soy free, or gluten free options!

Time to pick your filling! And this is the best part about making homemade chocolates, it can be anything your heart desires – literally. I decided to go with a natural peanut butter, strawberries, and coconut flakes. Once you have your filling in mind, you can get started!

Start by heating and melting your chosen chocolates. * If you are using a higher quality or allergy-concious chocolate, make sure you keep a close eye on how quickly you are melting the chocolate – they seem to burn rather quickly! Also, if they aren’t as smooth and glossy as normal melted chocolate, add in a dab of oil such as olive or vegetable. This just helps build that smooth texture you want from a molded chocolate. Next, fill your molds about half way and let chill in the refrigerator for about ten minutes! They will have a nice matte finish when they’re ready!

Let’s get creative! Like I mentioned before, I used natural peanut butter, strawberries, and a few coconut flakes. Almond Joy’s are a favorite in this house so those are definitely for Chad! A few other options could be crushed almonds, raisins, blueberries, or even just as is. The combinations are endless and completely unique to your preference. Again, my favorite part.

Fill and let chill! Once they’re nicely packed in there, coat with the last layer of chocolate and repeat the cooling process. I do recommend a bit more time for anything with a peanut butter or nut butter filling. *After making warning: be careful not to fill the middle with TOO much, you want the chocolate topping to coat and attach to the first layer! If it is too bulky, they won’t stick and you’re left with a broken heart (I have to stop with the puns)

I hope you all enjoy! And I hope you make these for your Valentine’s Day person or people.Be sure to tag me so I can see all of the love!
