My Northeast Ohio hometown is roughly 50 miles from Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and anything in-beween. As much as I love taking trips to Pittsburgh and often times Cleveland, driving an hour just to do some grocery shopping isn’t necessarily the most efficient thing in the world. Lucky for us, many brands that originated in Whole Foods are actually being sold in our normal groceries, more and more. I never thought I would see kombucha and Quest Bars at Walmart, or Way Better sprouted-grain chips at Target!

Giant Eagle is one of my favorite groceries in the area. For anyone out of state, it’s pretty much like a Wegmans, Publix, or Winn-Dixie. They have everything from year-round fresh and local produce, to Purely Elizabeth and Siggi’s Yogurt. Random brands, but you get the point – GE is my whole foods. I stopped on Friday to pick up a few things and was so excited to come across the REBBL Turmeric-Golden Milk elixir! I’ve seen the Matcha blend a few times but it looks like they’re starting to get a few more flavors.

I love REBBL as both a company and array of products. Their elixirs contain super-herbs such as maca and ashwaganda; as well as, all natural ingredients such as turmeric, ginger, and coconut milk. They also dabble with protein and coffee elixirs which make for a great pre/post workout smoothie!

I decided to give this ‘Golden Milk’ a go and I am so glad I did. Most people make Golden Milk at home using a little bit of milk, turmeric, ginger, and honey. But, if you’re looking for a quick option with the same great benefits, REBBL’s isn’t too far off from what you can make at home! Like I said, they pride themselves on using all natural ingredients, so opting for a quick option like this pre-made Golden Milk, is never a bad idea. Turmeric and ginger are two very powerful herbs and are proven to help with inflammation and digestive health. Coconut milk is also very beneficial in that it is high in healthy fats, fiber and plenty of vitamins and minerals. Put two and two together, and you’ve got yourself a match made in heaven!

Because of the anti-inflammatory benefits that turmeric has, this elixir also made for the perfect post-workout smoothie! If you happen to follow me on insta, you might have seen this beauty featured on my story. Anyways, lets talk about what’s really important here – we made cookies using REBBL’s Golden Milk elixir! You will get all of the great benefits that this combo has to offer, plenty of antioxidants from dark chocolate, and the satisfaction of a bakery-grade cookie with zero grams of added sugars. This elixir gone cookie might be he healthiest and most delicious cookie we have made yet!

The ingredients for this recipe are very simple and can easily be substituted for GF or vegan options. I chose to opt out any added sugars (including honey or stevia) and even went with a 95% cocoa dark chocolate bar. If you want to sweeten this recipe up a bit, feel free to add 2 tbsp. of honey to the batter and go for a 70-80% cocoa bar!

What You Will Need

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup coconut flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 4 oz. REBBL’s Turmeric Golden Milk (homemade recipe below!)
  • Dark Chocolate Bar/Chunks (70-90% cocoa)

Optional: 2 tbsp. honey or stevia for added sweetness!

In a large mixing bowl, combine all of your dry ingredients. Using the same bowl, add in your egg and Golden Milk. Stir until a soft cookie bater begins to form. Fold in the dark chocolate chunks, roughly 3/4 of the chocolate bar, saving 1/4 for toppings!

Next, “drop” or dollop the cookie batter onto a parchment lined paper and add any additional chocolate toppings. Bake at 350ºF for 12-15 minutes, or until they have puffed up a bit. – I was going to say golden in color but they’re already gold because they’re made from golden milk duh!

That’s it! I hope you give these super healthy cookies a try! Be sure to tag me at #thehealthiestme so I can see!
